Gallery Of The Week: Donzi Icon 44 Catamaran Road Show Begins

Ready for prime time after its Miami International Boat Show debut in February, the all-carbon-fiber Donzi Icon 44 catamaran is sure to turn heads at this weekend’s Jacksonville River Rally and Poker Run in Northern Florida. That’s by design, of course, as the quad Mercury Racing Verado 400R outboard-engine powered cat is an Iconic Marine product, and the Washington, N.C., parent company of Donzi, Baja and Fountain is the event’s title sponsor.

Just in case you won’t be in Jacksonville this weekend to catch it in action, we’re bringing you the latest and greatest and images of the Donzi Icon 44 catamaran in action (click image to enlarge). Photos courtesy/copyright Mark Spencer/Iconic Marine Group.

After Jacksonville, the cat will be hauled to the Big Thunder Marine dealership at the Lake of the Ozarks in Central Missouri, where it will be available by appointment for sea trials during Memorial Day weekend.

Until now, there haven’t been a whole lot of professional aerial images—as in none—of the 44-footer in action. Enter Mark Spencer, a talented fellow Powerboat magazine alumnus working with Iconic Marine Group on marketing programs for all three of its brands. Spencer knows that any campaign begins with good images—and video these days, so stay tuned—so he set up a helicopter photo shoot in Sarasota, Fla., and made it happen.

Check out the slideshow above for more images of the quad outboard engine-powered 44-footer.

When we caught up with him via email, Spencer was buzzing with information on 44-foot cat.

“Now fully dialed in, the big cat has ticked off speeds in excess of 120 mph,” he wrote. “Acceleration throughout the entire power curve is unprecedented and aided by the boat’s lightweight, yet ultra-strong carbon fiber construction. We also hear that extensive on-the-water testing proved six people can sit behind the protected confines of the boat’s racing-inspired wraparound windshield and carry on a conversation at speeds of 100-plus mph.”

We’re looking forward to experiencing that for ourselves. But until then, we’re digging the latest and greatest images of the cat. And we’re sure you will, too.
