Gallery of the Week: Highlights From The Lake Powell Spring Fun Run

Thanks to more than 30 boats and nearly perfect weather, last weekend’s Lake Powell Spring Fun Run hosted by Antelope Point Marina in Page, Ariz., was another memorable one. The incredible pictures—courtesy of Tom Leigh of Tommy Gun Images—in this Gallery of the Week prove that.

With the expansive and majestic Colorado River-fed lake that borders Arizona and Utah at their disposal, participants in the fourth annual event, which serves as precursor to the one-and-only Lake Powell Challenge in September, had an excellent time.

“We had more boats than we did in 2018 and, although we don’t have a final tally just yet, we’re expecting to donate even more money than we did last year,” said Amber McDaniel, the marina’s special events coordinator. “The representatives from C.U.D.D.L.E. Outreach, the new charity we are working with, came to the event and had a table at Saturday night’s dinner. Needless to say, they were thrilled with the outcome. The Hawaiian Luau-themed dinner on Saturday night was beautiful; it made for a really nice atmosphere.

“We’re excited so many people came out—the continued support from our boating community has been awesome,” she continued. “It’s always nice to see everyone come together for a good cause. Now it’s onward to our biggest event of the season, which we hope will be amazing again.”

McDaniel said she enjoyed working with the event’s new local charity—C.U.D.D.L.E. Outreach, an organization that comforts and provides quality emergency supplies for children in crisis and aids in their future development.

Adrian Barrett of Barrett Custom Marine in Lake Havasu City, Ariz., which is a sponsor of the event, said he had a good time at the fun run as he bounced around between a couple of customer boats—a 42-foot MTI catamaran and a 39-foot Nor-Tech V-bottom. He also spent time with longtime supporter of the Antelope Point Marina-hosted events, George Argyros, in Argyros’ impressive 48-foot MTI cat.

“The spring event has always had a different vibe than the Lake Powell Challenge in September—it’s more low key and this year was no different,” Barrett said. “The weather was bitchin’ and participants got to do a lot of boating. That’s the great thing about Lake Powell.

“The group in charge of the event had not really ran it before so some things were new to them and didn’t go as smoothly as they probably wanted them to go,” he added. “Still, Lake Powell is so unique and so fun that it’s hard to go wrong, especially with the setup Antelope Point Marina offers. We’ve been a part of a bunch of these events before and it’s all about everyone working together to raise money for a good cause. It’s also about people having a good time, but we’ll continue to support it as long as it continues to give back.”
