Gallery Of The Week: Jet Takes Flight In Miami

This isn’t the first story we’ve had on Jet, the new Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats SC 46 catamaran canopied owned by Michigan’s Burton and Yvette Kirsten, and it surely won’t be the last one to feature the canopied catamaran powered by twin Mercury Racing dual-calibration 1350/1100 engines that made its debut at the 2019 Miami International Boat Show. But this story includes likely the best looks you can get of the boat thanks to the efforts of speedonthewater.com chief photographer Pete Boden from in the air and on the docks last week.

The eye-catching 46-foot cat, which was painted by Stephen Miles Design in Kentucky, was a no-brainer highlight of the show, especially being paired next to Crypto, the stunning SV 43 that also featured a one-of-a-kind SMD paintjob.

“I think we’ve had a boat on display at the Miami show the past five years between Vinnie Diorio’s Outerlimits SL 41, Buddy Thomas’ Outerlimits cat, a couple of Deep Impact and Mystic Powerboats center consoles, and now Jet and Crypto,” Stephen Miles said. “Having both of those boats at the show this year was pretty incredible. That is definitely going to be hard to top.”

Kirsten, who owns an aerospace and automotive tooling, equipment and services company in Troy, Mich., is excited to show off the SC 46 at events around the country this year.

“I couldn’t be more proud of Dan Kleitz and everyone involved in this project,” said Kirsten, whose previous Outerlimits was the well-known SC 39 cat, MAX, which also was painted by SMD. “I’ve owned four Outerlimits, and after seeing Jet, I think Dan and company knocked it out of the park with this one. I give him a lot of credit. He never gave up for one second—for a young guy, I’ve been very impressed.”

As Matt Tulio, Pete Boden and myself quickly examined images from the Friday morning photo shoot, the jet expressions—or idioms—began rolling off of each of our tongues, some funnier than others, but continuing nonetheless.
