Gallery Of The Week: Miami Boat Show Perishables

Years ago when the hour got late at one of her famous, raucous dinner parties, my mom used to announce to her guests, “It’s time to put the perishables to bed.” She wasn’t talking about the food. She loved people and, most of the time, so do I.

Lamination materials and metal can be replaced. All it takes is money. But the people behind blending those elements into today’s high-performance powerboats are priceless—and perishable. None of us will be here forever. We all have expiration dates.

People are what my speedonthewater.com Jason Johnson and I enjoy most about the Miami International Boat Show, which is just a few days shy of being one month away. The Miami event gives us a chance to spend a little time with our friends in the marine industry, as well as our readers. There never is enough time, which makes us cherish it even more.

OK, yeah, the new boats and engines are pretty cool—that’s why we’re there, to report on those products for folks who aren’t at the show. But the people behind the products make it all a lot more meaningful and fun.

For those of you who’ll be in Miami this year, we can’t wait to see you. For those of you who won’t, we’ll bring you all the news on speedonthewater.com as quickly and accurately as possible. We’re already making coverage plans and getting pumped.
