Gasse To Run Four Races in 2014

Coming off an offshore racing season that saw Gasse Racing compete in just one event—the Super Boat International Sarasota (Fla.) Suncoast Grand Prix—the team is planning to run four SBI events in 2014 in the Unlimited class. Powered by a pair of Mercury Racing1650 engines, the team plans to run its 48-foot Marine Technology, Inc., in the SBI season-opener Charlotte Harbor, the Sarasota Suncoast Grand Prix, the National Championships in Clearwater, Fla., and the Key West Offshore World Championships according to Gasse throttleman John Tomlinson.

“We’ll see how it goes—I think we’ll make it that far,” said Tomlinson, shares the cockpit with team owner/driver Tor Staubo of Norway. “We just finished testing it in January. We’ll run it again in March and be ready to go for Charlotte Harbor.”

Tomlinson said the crew at TNT Custom Marine, which he co-owns with Mike Thomas, in Miami has pulled the boat’s engines for refreshment. In the mean time, the TNT is tackling what Tomlinson described as “minor glass work” on the 48-footer.

“Once we get the engines back in it, we’ll be ready to test again,” he added.
