Gratton died after his raceboat overturned during the 2011 Super Boat International World Championships in Key West, Fla. The jury trial of the case began last week and was expected to last two more weeks. The suit alleged that the defendants failed to ensure properly trained rescue divers were able to quickly reach Gratton’s boat and delayed rescue efforts by not immediately stopping the race after the accident.
