For Xtreme Powerboats owner Larry Goldman, the season doesn’t get much busier than the fall. Not that the owner of one of South Florida’s top performance boat dealers and service centers isn’t busy year round, it’s just that this time of year includes the grandiose Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show followed by the grand daddy of all poker runs—the Florida Powerboat Club’s Key West Poker Run, which goes from Miami to Key West, Fla., and coincides with the Super Boat International Offshore World Championships in the country’s southernmost city.

Years ago Goldman competed in the Key West Worlds, and was pretty successful (he has two world titles to show for it). And while those days are gone, the 55 year old still enjoys watching the races and hanging out in Key West with friends, customers and former competitors.

Yet despite selling a couple of the popular MTI-V 42 models from Marine Technology Inc., in Wentzville, Mo., at the show and prepping about a dozen boats for the poker run, Goldman’s biggest news came on the first day of the Fort Lauderdale show when Westrec Marinas announced its plans for the revitalized Haulover Marine Center in North Miami.
