Holmes Travels to Capitol Hill in Praise of Ethanol Benefits

Praising the benefits of ethanol fuel, Keith Holmes, president and owner of CK Motorsports in Nunica, Mich., traveled to Washington D.C., last week to present and answer questions at the Fuels America Capital Hills Briefing related to his experience with ethanol in the marine industry.

A certified Mercury Racing technician, Holmes—along with Brian Sowers, engine authority and co-host of Crappie Masters TV, and Marc Rauch, executive vice president and co-publisher at the Auto Channel—briefed lawmakers on Capitol Hill about the importance of ethanol in protecting the environment, preserving America’s energy security and providing a high-octane boost to marine engines.

“We work on a wide variety of racing engines for watercraft and they run at their absolute best on a high-octane ethanol blend,” Holmes said in a press release. “Ethanol burns cleaner and cooler. Since the introduction of E10, we find that many engine parts have a 25- to 50-percent longer lifespan. The National Boat Racing Association exclusively uses E10 for all of its races.”

Looking to gain added power, endurance and speed in its 40-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran, the CK Motorsports-backed Cat Can Do offshore racing team switched its Sterling Performance engines over to E90 Ethanol fuel in 2015.

Holmes said the Cat Can Do team has a 10-race schedule planned this year, beginning with Lake Race in Missouri (June 2-4).

“The gauges showed our engines produced over 1,700 hp burning ethanol fuel,” Holmes said. “We found that, by running ethanol, the engines run cooler and produce more power. The environmentally friendly aspects—cleaner air, cleaner water—is something our team is really proud of.”

With the backing of Ignite Racing Fuels and American Ethanol, the Cat Can Do boat is just one way Holmes plans to educate people and help displace the myths associated with ethanol fuel.
