Hustler, Checkmate Offer Aggressive Pricing in Miami

The pairing of the Hustler and Checkmate powerboat lines under the Global Marine Performance umbrella is proving beneficial for both entities, not to mention consumers looking for high-quality sportboats in a wide range of prices. That’s the word from Hustler president Joe LoGiudice and Checkmate general manager Dean Reynolds, who took time out for a short interview moments ago during the Miami International Boat Show.

“Checkmate has brought us some amazing people, and we’re really happy with the way things are working out,” LoGiudice said.

“It’s been wonderful, it really has,” Reynolds added. “They really want us to take our time and do things right. I think we’ve both been able to contribute to each other. For example, they’ve helped us find suppliers we didn’t even know existed and we’ve done the same thing.”

With the Checkmate and Hustler lines in play, Global Marine Performance has both ends of the sportboat market covered. For example, the Checkmate 2400 BRX closed-deck V-bottom with a single Mercury Marine OptiMax outboard engine, which reportedly powers it to 70 mph, has a list price of $82,350 and a special boat show price of $64,000. Across the exhibit, a Hustler 388 Reloaded V-bottom powered by twin Mercury Racing 520 stern drive engines, which power it to the mid-80-mph range, lists at $428,125 and has a show price of $289,000.

“If I can’t sell the 388 at that price, that’s a sign that the market is really soft and hasn’t come back,” LoGiudice said.
