Ilmor Engine Powering New Inboard Chris-Craft
In keeping with the times, Chris-Craft transitioned from direct-drive inboard power to stern-drive applications more than 30 years ago. But in a nod to its roots, the Sarasota, Fla.-based sportboat and motor launch builder is equipping its new Capri 21 model with a 380-hp, 6.0-litre engine from Ilmor Marine. The first collaboration between the two companies, the 21-footer will be showcased at the upcoming Miami International Boat Show.
According to a press release from Chris-Craft, “The Capri 21 embraces design cues from the brand’s original DNA and harks back to the Chris-Craft vertical bow models of the 1930s.”
“Our 6.0-liter V-8 engine presents a nice power-to-length-ratio with this model,” said Jessica Gamarra, the director of sales and marketing for Ilmor Marine headquartered in Plymouth, Mich. “We are thrilled to be working with Chris-Craft, and having an engine like ours (in the Capri 21) will reinforce their performance heritage.”
Like Chris-Craft, Ilmor Marine will be exhibiting at the upcoming event with its MV8-570 and other V-8 engine models, which have found a successful home in the MasterCraft towboat line.
“We focusing more on the V-8 line in Miami,” said Gamarra. “The 570 picked up in orders last year, and we are focusing on the repower market.”
To that (repower) end, the Bobtail version of the V-8 570-hp engine will be on display in the Ilmor booth.
