Image of the Week: Buffalo Glow

Patrick Walker of Lakewood, N.Y., has three hobbies—go-fast boating, raising and showing Irish Wolfhounds and photography—that consume his leisure time. While we can’t vouch for his skills with dogs, we have seen him, with his wife, Darlene, in action in their yellow 29-foot Velocity, a former Factory 1-class raceboat that last competed in 2005. (Walker bought the boat once its racing days were over.) The Walkers ran their boat in last month’s Buffalo Poker Run (read the story).

And now, thanks to this digital image, we can say that Walker definitely puts his time to good use behind the lens of a camera. He captured this photo of the fleet with downtown Buffalo in the background Friday night before the run. It was a flawless summer evening followed by an equally flawless day on the water.

“Seems like most of the years (for the Buffalo Poker Run) we’ve had pretty decent weather,” said Walker, who has been participating in the event since 1998. “August in Western New York is nice.”

As is Walker’s work with a camera.
