Image of the Week: Fall Reflections

While fall doesn’t end until December 20—the day winter officially kicks in—the colors of fall will be long gone by then. Of course they’ll be missed, as will warm days on the water in most parts of the United States. That’s especially in areas like Solomons, Md.—places in which fall color rules the landscape for several weeks every year—where photographer Tim Sharkey captured this image at dusk the day before the Offshore Powerboat Association National Championships.

The colors in Sharkey’s image are as vibrant as they get come, but what grabbed our attention in this photo are the reflections of the catamaran and the cliffs on the water. The boat’s roostertail looks one of those Las Vegas-style water features, and the water in foreground and trees in the background form a perfect frame for all of it.
