Image of the Week: Follow The Sun

Have you ever had the urge when you’re running offshore to just point the nose of your boat toward the horizon and keep on going? Forget those pesky little details like running out of gas before you get anywhere, losing your job and getting tossed out of your home by your justifiably annoyed spouse when you don’t come home for a few weeks, and dying of dehydration and exposure. We’re talking fantasy, and this is one more than a few go-fast boat owners have told us they’ve had during the years.

We’ve had it, too. Especially on deadline.

For us, this Jay Nichols image taken during the Fort Myers Offshore annual Holiday Season Run in late December captures the “escape fantasy” that is so common among performance-boat lovers. And why wouldn’t it be common? Isn’t the whole point of all the time and energy—and money—you spend for a precious few hours on the water about escape?

All forms of recreation are about that, when you think about it. Most just don’t come with a horizon to chase.
