Image of the Week: It’s a Bird, It’s a Plane, It’s a Cigarette

Florida Powerboat Club member Benny D’Angelo of Montreal is a regular at the Miami Boat Show Poker Run each February, according to FPC President Stu Jones. He’s also proof that being a veteran of the run doesn’t mean you won’t come across something unique or different from year to year.

Judging from the picture taken by the talented Florida Powerboat Club crew it appears that D’Angelo and the guests aboard his Cigarette Racing 38 Top Gun don’t normally get to see a seaplane flying above—especially one owned by a fellow club member. They appear to be swept up in the beauty of the Searey amphibious airplane owned by longtime FPC member Luis Sotero as it passes by overhead.

Jones said the FPC crew followed Sotero in his airplane, catching shots of it with several boats. But the image of it with D’Angelo’s 38-foot Cigarette really stands out since both the plane and the boat, which is the same model Sotero owns, are red.

You can also tell that the conditions, as has been reported in a few stories related to the poker run (see below), were cold and rough. So, on second thought, maybe it’s not that D’Angelo and his crew were in awe. Maybe they were just jealous.
