Image of the Week: Mystic Heats Up Boyne Thunder

Mystic’s first Mercury Racing 1350 engine-powered 50-foot “pleasure” catamaran made its debut at this month’s Boyne Thunder Poker Run on Lake Michigan. By all accounts the new boat was a jaw-dropper. Owned by Tom Borisch and painted by Boat Customs, the cat first touched the water the night before the event, according to John Cosker, the founder and owner of Mystic in Deland, Fla.

“I haven’t even seen it finished yet,” said Cosker, referring to the catamaran’s smoldering red paint job. “It’s not even fully dialed in yet—we still have a little left to do—but I hear it ran well.

“We have several customers talking about putting 1350s in a boat,” he added. “I think they were kind of waiting to see how this one ran. Now that it’s out there, I think we’ll get more orders for the 50 with 1350s.”

Photographer Jay Nichols captured this spectacular image of the 50-footer running into the sunlight—and as usual helped out the colors with his signature bit of Photoshop work.

“Heck, it’s not about catching ‘reality,’” Nichols joked. “It’s about catching my reality. I am all about creating a mood and capturing the beauty of the moment.”
