Image of the Week: Naples By Nichols

Among the many reasons good reasons we were ready to say goodbye to 2016 and start the New Year was the return of photographer Jay Nichols to the high-performance powerboating world. A longtime contributor to speedonthewater.com, Nichols took a much-needed break—with the exception of shooting Skaterfest and a couple of local events—from go-fast boat photography last year.

But now he’s back, as you can see from the image above. Last weekend, he captured the Fort Myers Offshore club’s 16-boat fun run from the Sanibel Island Bridge to the Hyatt hotel in Naples, Fla., in his signature style that involves plenty of post-shoot Photoshop color work. Nichols’ images—while not everyone’s taste—are at once presentational and representational.

And we’d be lying if we said we didn’t miss them.

Said FMO president Eric Belisle, “It was great having Jay on the Naples Pier—with a decent chop in the Gulf he was able to get a lot of great action pictures.”

Welcome back, Jay.
