Image of the Week, Part II: Mega (Yacht-Assisted) Air

Most of us can’t imagine owning a big-buck, high-performance powerboat such as an SV 52 from Outerlimits, much less a 50-metre yacht. But an Outerlimits customer in Turkey owns both, and he sent this photo, which we imagine was taken from his helicopter, to Outerlimits principal Mike Fiore, and Fiore, the owner and founder of the Bristol, R.I., custom V-bottom and catamaran company, sent it to us.

In case you missed it, the Outerlimits 52-footer—flying with a perfectly level attitude—is the little white boat to right in the photo. The yacht, well, we don’t think you’ll have any trouble spotting it.

“Look at the 52, it looks like an inflatable next to the yacht,” said Fiore through fits of laughter in a telephone conversation yesterday. “It’s just crazy.”

Of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t’ say that we, like Fiore, don’t advocate intentional wake jumping, even in the Mediterranean, even in a go-fast boat as fine as an SV 52 behind a 50-metre yacht. But intentional or not, it’s simply outrageous—and one outrageous image.
