Image of the Week, Part II: Nichols Goes Deep In Clearwater

Proving that he is either dedicated to his craft or a total nut job—or both—photographer Jay Nichols went waist-deep in the Gulf of Mexico waters to get this shot of Stihl mixing it up with Al Adaa’am 96 during the Super Boat International National Championships in Clearwater, Fla., last month.

“Shooting from the beach, Clearwater has the best light of any venue in my opinion,” said Nichols. “I went waist-deep in the surf to get that shot, and hell yes I was nervous. I have some history with saltwater.

“But there was no way I could stay on the beach with several other photographers out there,” he added.

For what it’s worth, Jay Nichols, we’re glad you didn’t stay on the beach. We’re also glad you didn’t get your camera wet.
