Image of the Week, Part II: Orange Juice In Key West

Continuing with a theme this first week of fall, Speedonthewater.com’s second Image of the Week is a sunset photo. But unlike the Tim Sharkey shot from Solomons, Md., that ran Monday, this Jay Nichols image has a boat in it—the orange prototype V 42 from Marine Technology, Inc.

Nichols nabbed this photo during the 2012 Super Boat International Key West Offshore World Championships. With the 2013 SBI Worlds coming up fast in early November, we thought this would be the perfect time to present a Key West sunset. Because there’s nothing like them.

If you’ve seen a sunset in Key West, you know what we mean. If you haven’t seen one, you need to. We’re big fans of sunsets on the water anywhere, but those at the southernmost point of the United States are particularly spectacular.

“There were some very cool sunset shots in the harbor last year,” said Nichols. “I sat my butt at the Pier House one day from late afternoon to dusk and probably shot 600 frames.”

Here’s to that one frame in 600—the one that made the cut—and to all orange sunsets in Key West.
