Image of the Week, Part II: Remarkable Recovery At LOTO

With many of the finest high-performance catamarans in the world gathering for Supercat Fest—running concurrently but independently of the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout—this weekend in Missouri, crack photographer Pete Boden has plenty of outrageous subjects to frame in his lenses. For a go-fast boat photographer, events don’t get any more “target-rich,” to borrow from Tom Cruise in the movie “Top Gun,” than the Shootout and Supercat Fest, which is headquartered at the Camden On The Lake Resort.

Boden captured this image of the 40-foot Skater catamaran Recovery yesterday. Built in 2002 and formerly owned by offshore world champion Stuart Hayim—Hayim is a cancer survivor who named all his boats Recovery—the 40-footer currently is owned by Brett Miller of Kansas City, Mo. That a 12-year-old cat still manages to look so vital and current is remarkable.

Then again, it is a Skater—and they’ll be even more of them along with offerings from Marine Technology, Inc., and other builders at Supercat Fest this weekend.
