Image Of The Week: Red, White And Blue, Underwater Style

Thanks to Plantation Boat Mart and Marina in Tavernier, Fla., center-console sister brands, Deep Impact Custom Boats and BlackWater Boats boasted a strong presence at the Gilbert’s Resort and Tiki Bar docks in Key Largo, Fla., during last month’s Florida Powerboat Club Miami Boat Show Poker Run and Exhibit. But their impact below the water—thanks to three of the four beauties equipped with underwater LED lighting systems—was as impressive as it was above it, at least when the sun went down.

In poring over hundreds of images from the event courtesy of the Florida Powerboat Club, as well as speedonthewater.com chief photographer Pete Boden, we almost missed this one. At a quick glance, we saw a row of mostly white center consoles under a gray sky at sunset. A closer look revealed a clever—and downright patriotic—arrangement of soft hues produced by each boat’s underwater LED lighting system.

We take it as proof positive that there’s always a way to fly a flag and show your colors.
