Image of the Week: Running Into The New Year

Just a few days ago, the Fort Myers Offshore powerboat club held its annual Holiday Fun Run. As you read this, the annual Joey Gratton Memorial New Year’s Day Run organized by offshore racer Ryan Beckley is already underway.

Talk about a great way to head into the New Year. That’s just the way the go-fast powerboat community rolls on the west coast of Florida in late December and early January.

As he is for all FMO events, photographer Jay Nichols was on hand to capture the club’s Holiday Run last weekend. Few if any photographers take more joy in their work than Nichols.

“Best seat in da house,” Nichols wrote in a Facebook post accompanying some of the images he caught last Saturday. “Can’t believe I’m here and unable to imagine doing anything else.”

Nichol’s nailed it—and speedonthewater.com’s Jason Johnson and I feel exactly the same way. We love what we do and we feel lucky to be able to do it.

Happy New Year.
