Image of the Week: Sweeping Turn Formation

If you’re ever lucky enough to be offered a ride in a helicopter during a go-fast powerboating event, don’t turn it down. The altitude will change your view, so to speak, of what’s happening on the water below. Seen from above, go-fast boats running together appear graceful and the action—while often anything but for those in the boats—looks gentle.

Photographer Jay Nichols captured this aerial beauty of boats in the Fort Myers Offshore sweeping through a long turn during the club’s annual Turkey Day Run a couple of weeks ago. It’s a nice study in lines and color shifts, one you can only get from a perch in the air.
