Image of the Week: The Pure Beauty of DCB's M44 Widebody

Quite a contrast from the over-the-top Spooled Up II—the other DCB Performance Boats M44 Widebody that was delivered last month to the Hargreaves family in Washington following its extensive paintjob handled by Visual Imagination in Missouri—Mike and Kathie Stevenson’s 44-foot catamaran, the second one out of the mold but the first one delivered, is a work of art in its own right. Thanks to the crew at DCB in El Cajon, Calif., a commitment from longtime performance boat owner Mike Stevenson and the teamwork of ace photographer Tom Leigh of Tommy Gun Images and first-class pilot Fred Young of Las Vegas-based Maverick Helicopter, speedonthewater.com got the first dedicated photo shoot lined up for the gorgeous white (with pearl accents) and black 44-footer on Friday morning.

Along with four other boats from West Coast manufacturers in the photo session for the Speed On The Water 2017 Year In Review print edition that will be available for presale soon, the Sedona, Ariz., boater’s M44 powered by twin Mercury Racing 1100 engines was captured running along Lake Havasu, the beautiful Colorado River-fed lake that borders Arizona and California.

Following the photo shoot, Stevenson told us that he’s been enjoying the boat tremendously since taking it to Page, Ariz., in late August. Stevenson, who keeps the M44 as well as his houseboat at Antelope Point Marina on Lake Powell, used the cat, which is named El Blanco for obvious reason, in last month’s Lake Powell Challenge that raised an incredible $500,000 (read the story).

“I’m so happy with the boat, it is absolutely stunning,” Stevenson said. “The M44 handles beautifully. It’s the perfect boat for Lake Powell. I was impressed with my M35 that was powered by twin 1350s—it was a rocket—but I’m really impressed with this one. It drives so nice. That said the quality of a DCB is the most impressive part. I’ve owned some incredible boats over the years, but DCB is the best in terms of overall quality.”
