Image of the Week: The Return of Gasse

Last time we saw Gasse, a 48-foot Marine Technology, Inc., catamaran powered by twin Mercury Racing 1650 engines, on the racecourse was more than a year ago at the annual Super Boat International event in Sarasota, Fla. But despite early season plans to run more races in 2013, owner/driver Tor Staubo and throttleman John Tomlinson of TNT Custom Marine were scarce last year in SBI’s Superboat Unlimited class.

Based on their victory at last weekend’s SBI Charlotte Harbor (Fla.) Grand Prix, that layoff didn’t hurt Staubo and Tomlinson, who ran hard to chase down owner/driver Bob Bull and throttleman Randy Scism in CMS, another 48-foot MTI cat with Mercury Racing 1650s.

“For not being in a boat together since Sarasota, we did pretty well,” said Tomlinson.

Welcome back, Gasse. Like offshore powerboat racing fans everywhere, we’re glad to see you again.
