Image of the Week: We Have Lift-Off

While it is home to some of the finest go-fast boat hardware on the planet, Oklahoma’s Grand Lake probably isn’t the first place that comes to mind when you think “big air.” And yet it happens, as this photo by Jay Nichols clearly shows.

Spectacular shots of high-performance boats in flight aren’t hard to find. Images that capture the water-angle launch point of a given boat, however, are fewer and farther between. That, plus the color and movement in the image—trademark Nichols stuff—are what caught our eyes and made this a no-brainer as our choice for our Image of the Week.

According to Nichols, the guy behind the wheel of this Cigarette Gladiator is Tyson Garvin. When I asked Nichols about that day of shooting on the water, all he could do was laugh softly and say, “Man, those E-Dock guys.”
