Image of the Week: Work And Play At Boyne Thunder

Go-fast powerboats running in formation always make for strong images. During last weekend’s Boyne Thunder Poker Run (read the story) in Michigan, that meant one photo opportunity after the next for ace photographer Pete Boden, who was the official shooter for the event.

The Boyne Thunder Poker Run delivered countless photo opportunities for Pete Boden, who made the best of all of them. Photos courtesy/copyright Pete Boden/Shoot 2 Thrill Pix.

Fresh from shooting the Super Boat International Suncoast Sarasota Offshore Grand Prix just two weekends ago, Boden arrived in Boyne City to capture last Thursday’s lunch/fun run and the cocktail party on the Boyne Mountain ski hill later that evening. Boden will be staying in Michigan for a bit to cover the “Quake On The Lake” hydroplane race and the Offshore Powerboat Association’s St. Claire offshore powerboat race before he heads to the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout in Missouri next month.

Boden, whose digital photographs will grace Jason Johnson’s feature story on the Boyne Thunder Poker Run in the upcoming July/August issue of Speed On The Water digital magazine (to download the latest issue at no charge click here) works hard but really doesn’t consider shooting fast boats “work.”

“You want to talk about work?” he said recently in a text message. “HVAC, now that’s work.”

Clearly, the guys in the Skater catamaran in the foreground of the image above are enjoying the moment, but probably not as much as Boden did when he captured it.
