Image of the Week, Part II: Weekend Warriors

With the first day of summer just hours away, the 2014 high-performance boating season is already roaring. At this moment, after a full day of go-fast boating, parties are rolling big time at the New Jersey Performance Powerboat Club’s Atlantic City Poker Run and the Texas Outlaw Challenge.

Speedonthewater.com will have wrap-ups on both of this weekend’s major events when they’re done. In the meantime, we have plenty of images and updates on our Facebook page.

In the Texas event, well-known performance boating figure Gary Smith reportedly took top honors in today’s top-speed shootout with a 170-plus-mph run in his older Predator catamaran. In the New Jersey event, the 40-plus poker-run-boat fleet started in flat-glass water on Barnegat Bay and finished in rowdy offshore conditions that topped six-footers—that’s just the way it is in the Atlantic Ocean off the Garden State this time of year.

All par for the course for performance-boat lovers on the last day of spring. There’s a lot more coming this summer—even at both events this weekend—and we’ll bring as much to you as we can on speedonthewater.com as it all happens. But the 2014 season is off to a great start.
