A talented baseball player who was on the Cumberland University baseball team that won the 2004 NAIA World Series, Devin Williams wasn’t sure what he wanted to do for a living after he earned his degree in business management from the Lebanon, Tenn.-based school. But he did know he loved Tennessee, so he settled in Nashville and entered the exciting world of apartment management. While enjoying the thrills of that profession, Williams was inspired to take photography, his longtime hobby, a lot more seriously. Since then, photography has become his mostly full-time job.

Williams has captured everything from performance boating events—his images from the 2015 Old Hickory Fun were used in Speed On The Water’s still available 2015 Year In Review print edition—to weddings and other events. He’s also passionate about capturing the architecture and atmosphere of Nashville.

“I am a self-taught photographer,” said Williams, who is 32 years old and originally from Sarasota, Fla. “Getting where I am today took trial and error, and watching hundreds of YouTube videos. The best part of being a photographer is when people take time out to tell me how much they enjoy my images, or they say one brings back memories of special times in their lives.”

Williams is hoping to have 10 metal prints of his work displayed in a local gallery in the near future. Another goal is to publish a collection of his work in a hardcover coffee table-style book.

“For me the perfect image is when it speaks to the viewer and no explanation is needed,” he said.
