Inaugural Tiki Lee’s Shootout On The River Poker Run Draws Praise And High Boat Count

Organized by Tiki Lee’s Dock Bar owner and avid performance boater, David Carey, and his dedicated staff, the inaugural Tiki Lee’s Shootout On The River Poker Run kicked off this morning in Sparrows Point, Md., a short distance from Baltimore—and the response was nothing but positive.

“I just want to make sure everyone is having a good time—I want everyone to experience Chesapeake Bay and the waterfront restaurants,” said Carey, who added that the poker run attracted 129 registered boats and approximately 600 people. “A lot of people haven’t been here before and we’re trying to show them what it’s all about. For a first-year event, we’re really happy with the turnout.”

Marine Technology Inc. principal Randy Scism, full of praise for the event, had a great time doing the run in MTI’s demo 42-foot luxury performance center console.

“Dave and his team are hard workers—I think they knocked it out of the park,” Scism said. “You wouldn’t know this is a first-time poker run. The dockside service was first class.”

More than 125 boats took part in today’s poker run on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland.

Of the 112-mile course, Scism added, “It’s nice to actually boat, instead of having only 20 to 50 miles before stopping. It was an awesome run. I would definitely add this to your bucket list.”

A local participant who has done several events in the area over the past few years, Mitch Kramer of Maryland Offshore Performance Marine Center, had high praise for the poker run.

“The run today was great—the weather was ideal and the number of boats here is incredible,” said Kramer, who did the run in the Teasers-sponsored canopied 36-foot Skater with Maryland Offshore owner Andy Imhof. “I’ll you what, the staff at Tiki Lee’s is amazing—and the organization, being that this is a first-year event, is unbelievable. In my opinion, this is the best event, besides the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout, that I’ve ever attended.”

After the poker run, thousands of spectators were treated to a stunt plane airshow display, live music and a bikini contest.

The event continues tomorrow with an OPA-sanctioned kilo run record, featuring five classes: Stock-V, Modified-V, V-Extreme, Super Stock, and Factory Stock 450R.
