Inside SOTW Mag: Key West 2018—Four Highs And Lows From SBI’s Season Finale

By the time you read this, we probably still won’t know if Super Boat International will produce a season-ending event in Key West, Fla., in 2019, or if that honor will go to another Key West-based organization, meaning Race World Offshore. SBI produced three regular season races in 2018. RWO produced two.

The leaders of both organizations have stated they will bid in the city’s Request For Production process for an annual offshore racing season finale. The future of both organizations hinges on the outcome.

But for now, no one knows whether RWO or SBI will win the contract to produce powerboat races in the city at the end of the road in 2019. We only know what happened this year, and in typical Key West fashion the three-race SBI event produced highs and lows across the Superboat Unlimited, Superboat, Superboat Vee and Superboat Stock classes. The Manufacturer Production P3 and P4 had some solid races as well.
