Inside SOTW Mag: Shining Example—The 11th Annual Lake Powell Challenge

When Pete Boden—the not-so-easy- to-impress chief photographer of speedonthewater.com—can’t stop talking about an event, you know it’s a good one in a great location. You see, Boden, who is retired from the U.S. Navy, has traveled the world and spends at least 30 weekends a year shooting performance boat events. He understands what boaters want from an event in terms of organization, fun factor, philanthropy and scenery—not necessarily in that order.

Between changes in leadership and a watchful eye from local law enforcement, a different spotlight was focused on the 11th annual Lake Powell Challenge, and the event shined as bright as ever. Photo courtesy/copyright Pete Boden/Shoot 2 Thrill Pix.

And in all of those categories, the 2019 Lake Powell Challenge lived up to the hype with a fun, safe and successful event once again on the magnificently scenic lake that borders Arizona and Utah.

Just ask Boden the next time you see him, or read one of his many social media posts referring to Lake Powell as a must-attend, bucket-list event and destination. Boden, who calls both Florida and Michigan home depending on the time of year, plans to return again and is likely to recruit some of his closest boating friends to participate in the poker run and fundraiser for the newly established Lake Powell Challenge Charities Foundation 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
