Inside SOTW Mag: Women Of Substance—Tanah Kinsey

Based on all of the people—not just boaters—she’s friends with up and down the West Coast and elsewhere across the country, one would think Wozencraft Insurance representative Tanah Kinsey has lived in Southern California her entire life. After seeing her enthusiasm while riding in Wozencraft Insurance owner Devin Wozencraft’s 30-foot Skater Powerboats catamaran at a poker run, one might think she’s been a boater her whole life, too. Neither is true as Kinsey was born and raised in Mexico City and moved to California in 1998. And, up until eight years ago, she wouldn’t step foot on a boat in fear of getting seasick.

The 41-year-old mother of three kids—Kyle, 19, Matthew, 18, and Nyah, 15—Kinsey is a self- motivated, self-taught go-getter who has been a driving force behind the travel schedule that Devin Wozencraft and the rest of his staff have been embarking on for several years to get—and keep—their name out there.

HOW LONG HAVE YOU WORKED AT WOZENCRAFT INSURANCE AND WHAT’S YOUR ROLE?

I started 17 years ago, then took a five-year break and came back a little more than 10 years ago for my second term. I do not officially have a title, but I do everything from sales and marketing to operations. Currently I am revamping our agency management systems to allow for a better customer experience and support our growth more effectively.

WHEN WERE YOU FIRST INTRODUCED TO BOATING?

My first introduction to boating was the 2013 Desert Storm Poker Run in Lake Havasu City, Ariz. Because of an ear problem, I used to get very seasick and wanted nothing to do with boating.

I can never say no to Devin, so he talked me into running our card stop that year. I pumped myself full of Dramamine and got through it. I never stopped boating after that and eventually cured myself. Boating is a huge part of my life now.
