Inside SOTW: Tiki Lee’s Trifecta Takes The Cake

Put in motion and organized by Tiki Lee’s Dock Bar owner and avid performance boater, David Carey, and his dedicated staff, the inaugural Tiki Lee’s Shootout On The River in Sparrows Point, Md., did not disappoint. The event included a very well-attended poker run on Friday, an OPA-sanctioned kilo run on Saturday with 10 boats competing in five classes—Pro Stock Vee, Modified Vee, Vee Extreme, Super Stock and Factory Stock 450R—on the Back River kilo course, and a top-speed shootout that featured 17 boats (and an aerobatic stunt plane) running their fastest down the three-quarter-mile course on Sunday.

From sponsors, participants and spectators, the reaction to the inaugural Tiki Lee’s Shootout On The River Poker Run in Sparrows Point, Md., was overwhelmingly positive. Photo by Tim Sharkey copyright Sharkey Images.

“We just wanted everyone to have a good time experiencing Chesapeake Bay and the waterfront restaurants,” said Carey, who added that the poker run attracted 129 registered boats and approximately 600 people. “A lot of people had never been here before and we’re trying to show them what it’s all about. For a first-year event, we’re really happy with the turnout.”
