Jason Johnson, the former editor of recently discontinued Powerboat magazine, has joined speedonthewater.com as a co-publisher and content producer for the daily high-performance powerboating news and features site. Johnson also will be a regular contributor to Sportboat magazine.

“I’m excited to be contributing to Speed on the Water and adding another voice to the content-drive website that performance boaters have grown to love over past two years,” said Johnson. “Matt Trulio, who started the site and also is the editor of Sportboat, and I have worked well together over the years, and I’m looking forward to working with him again in both the digital in and print worlds.”

Johnson’s contributions to the site will begin next week with “State of the Industry Roundtable, 2012,” a nine-part series in which he interviews key industry leaders about the future of the high-performance marine world. A new segment with a different industry notable will appear each weekday, starting Monday, Jan. 9 and finishing on Thursday, Jan. 19.

Since joining Powerboat in 2005, Johnson was an integral part of the magazine’s staff, utilizing journalistic integrity and experience in and around the latest and greatest performance boats to report on all aspects of the go-fast lifestyle.

After graduating with a journalism degree from Pepperdine University, he worked for the sports department of a local newspaper and then co-founded Los Angeles Sports & Fitness Magazine, which won the Maggie Award for Best New Publication in 2002.

Johnson resides in Moorpark, Calif., with his wife of seven years, Stephanie, and his 1-year-old daughter, Morgan.
