A longtime friend of Sgro, the former Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats president and investor who died from injuries sustained during a poker run to Key West, Fla., in 2017, Joe Cibellis founded the event. For professional organizing help this year, Cibellis turned to Anthony Scioli, the Buffalo, N.Y.-based founder of Elite Poker Runs.
