Key West To Finalize Race-Promoter Contract In Early May

During its May 7 meeting, the Key West (Fla.) City Commission will handle “approving the ranking of proposals for Annual Power Boat Championship Race in accordance with the response to Request for Proposals,” according to agenda for the meeting, and “authorizing the City Manager to negotiate and execute a contract with the first-ranked Race Promoter, Race World Offshore.” The agenda item is expected to be acted on at approximately 6:15 p.m.

Based in Key West, Race World Offshore earned the highest ranking with 87 out of 100 points from the five-person ranking panel for the five-year race promoter. Fellow bidders Offshore Powerboat Association/Powerboat P1 and Super Boat International tied in the Request For Proposal rankings with each organization earning 82.4 points.

In addition to RFPs, both Race World Offshore and Super Boat International filed Special Event Applications “to conduct powerboat races November 3-10, 2019” well before the RFP process was announced and began. Denying both of those applications also is on the City Commission’s May 7 meeting agenda and is slated to happen before the Commission tackles final approval of RFP rankings.
