Kuttawa Cannonball Run Moving Forward

In 2019, the third annual Kuttawa Cannonball Run on Kentucky Lake and Lake Barkley fought wild mid-June weather and still managed to attract more than 100 boats. This time around, the organizers of Kentucky-based happening, scheduled for June 5-6, are facing an even greater challenge in the form of the COVID-19 pandemic. But social distancing measures and Center for Disease Control novel coronavirus guidelines allowing, they still plan to hold the event.

“We currently have 36 boats registered,” said Jeff Hoefling of Lively Machine Company, Inc., in Evansville, Ind., who is producing the run with Stephen Miles of Stephen Miles of Stephen Miles Design and fellow organizer Terry Martin. “We think that number would be much higher but many people want to know if we are still on due to the virus. With the Desert Storm event rescheduled and the Lake Lanier (Georgia) event cancelled, we’re expecting a great turnout.”

Last year, the event raised money for Riley Children’s Hospital, Point Man Ministries and Puzzle Pieces. The organizers hope to top that amount for those benefitting charities this year.

“First and foremost, we hope that everyone is healthy and making the best of this situation we’re all in,” said Martin, who is handling the event’s social media initiatives. “We also send blessings to those who have experienced loss.

“That said, the Kuttawa Cannonball Run team is pushing forward, maybe even harder than ever as we may be the first fun run of the season in a large radius,”he continued. “So we’re finalizing plans to accommodate more than 100 boats this year.”
