Lake Cumberland Marine Adds Checkmate and Hustler Powerboats
In less than two months at the Louisville Boat Show (Jan. 21-25) in Kentucky, Lake Cumberland Marine will showcase the first of many Checkmate Marine models it hopes to sell in the future. The Somerset, Ky., dealership recently ordered its first boat as an official dealer for Checkmate and its sister company, Hustler Powerboats in Calverton, N.Y.
Checkmate Marine has added another dealer—Lake Cumberland Marine in Somerset, Ky.
According to Casey Howard, general manager at Lake Cumberland Marine, both the Checkmate and Hustler lineups are a welcome addition to the dealership, which over the past year has reemerged under new ownership with a focus not just on go-fast boats but on family boats, wake sports models, fishing boats, personal watercraft and more.
“We just ordered our first Checkmate—a 260 Convincor with a MerCruiser 8.2 Mag HO engine for next month’s boat show,” said Howard, adding that the Bucyrus, Ohio, company is allowing the dealership to enhance the 26-footer’s standard four-color gelcoat graphics. “We’re excited to see how customers respond to the first one and to start feeding the market with some new performance boats. We’ll also be selling Hustlers, but they’ll be custom orders. We won’t be flooring them like we will other Checkmate models. Because of the price point and the bulletproof setup of the boats, we feel like we can make a big impact with the Checkmate brand.”
Howard said he’s been impressed with everyone and everything at Checkmate so far and can’t wait to see how the 260 Convincor performs since it reportedly reaches 70 mph with the 430-hp engine.
“Adding Lake Cumberland to the dealer network on the Checkmate side of things is exciting,” said Paul LoGiudice, vice president of sales for Checkmate and Hustler. “We hope that they will be able to sell some boats for Checkmate and hopefully order a few Hustlers along the way.”
