Lake Ontario Boat And Float Attracts 40 Entries

Based in Upstate New York, Photographer Rodney Olson has stayed busy this summer. Last month, he shot the Battleship Run on Seneca Lake. Yesterday, he captured the fifth annual Lake Ontario Boat And Float, a fun run and raft-off the notoriously fickle Great Lakes waterway.

For the most part, Lake Ontario was on good behavior during yesterday’s event. Photos by Rodney Olson copyright Full Speed Photography.

Organized by local powerboat owner A.J. Bogino, the casual event attracted 40 boats. The fleet departed from Sodus Bay yesterday morning and ran to Oswego for lunch at Alex’s On The Water. After lunch, the boat returned to Sodus Bay so participants could “hang out the sandbar,” said Olson.

Though the water appears calm in the images Olson captured, he said it was rougher than it looked.

Multiple performance boat brands were represented in the fleet.

“It was a great run—and probably one of the most challenging boat-to-boat shoots I’ve done,” he said.  “What looks like a calm lake was one- to three-foot rollers. I was unable to time my shots between waves but still managed to get some photos. The fleet spread out quickly and the boats managed to find their own lines to follow.

“It was another great way to see friends and catch up as we navigate our way through this crazy summer,” he added.
