The final pair of new 1075SCi engines from Mercury Racing is being installed in a 44-foot V-bottom—dubbed the 44 SL—from Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats in Bristol, R.I.

“It was a good product for us,” said Fred Kiekhaefer, the president of the Fond du Lac, Wis., high-performance marine engine company. “It wasn’t our first ‘big-power’ engine for consumers, but it was our first one with manners.”

The 1075-hp, supercharged, fuel-injected, computer-controlled and Mercury SmartCraft-equipped engine was introduced in the 2004. The discontinuation of the engine was announced shortly after the introduction of the quad-overhead-cam, turbocharged Mercury Racing 1350 at the 2010 Miami International Boat Show.
