Latham Marine Headed to FLIBS for First Time

Latham Marine, the highly regarded Florida-based company that has supplied the performance marine market with its world-class hardware and steering systems for more than 40 years, announced this week that it was sticking its toe in the water at the upcoming Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show (Nov. 5-9).

Set up at booth #521 in the Equipment tent, Latham Marine will demonstrate its reliable hydraulic steering systems as well as selected other items from its more than 10,000-part inventory. While racing in the offshore powerboat circuit in the 1970s, Bob Latham developed his steering systems to combat the problems racers faced from failed steering components available at the time, according to a press release from the company.

Over the next four decades, the business continued to grow by providing innovative solutions to the marine industry’s needs. Latham has become known as the “go-to” guy for creative problem-solving designs. The parts, which are all manufactured from stainless steel, aluminum and proprietary metals in the Latham Marine factory in Fort Lauderdale, are the choice of discerning boat builders, owners, racers, the U.S. military as well as friendly military and security forces around the world.

While the company has not exhibited in the Fort Lauderdale show in the past, its parts have been seen on performance boats, center consoles and sports cruisers from respected brands such as Intrepid, Cigarette Racing Team, Skater Powerboats, MTI, Mystic Powerboats, Regulator Marine, Bahama Boatworks, HydraSports, and Thunderbird/Formula Boats. Builders and their customers often demand Latham’s rugged steering, rudders, hydraulic lifts, outboard extension kits, throttles and shifters, and rigging components. Today’s hefty high-horsepower outboard engines also demand extra-strong components as evidenced by Seven Marine’s use of Latham steering in its 557 and 627 HP engines.

“We have generally walked this show to talk with our customers at their booths,” said Kathy Latham, who runs the business with her husband, Bob. “This year we decided to explore a booth in the Equipment tent to meet more potential customers. It’s our home base, so we’ll enjoy a different perspective as exhibitors, hearing more from boaters about what they need and how Latham parts may help them.”
