Low Altitude for Sale, Farnsworth Still in the Shootout Game

Win Farnsworth, whose top-speed shootout efforts have raised thousands of dollars for the Jason’s Friends Foundation, is selling his turbine-powered 50-foot Mystic Powerboats catamaran called Low Altitude. Farnsworth’s 50-footer joins the Silver Lining DCB M41 catamaran, another stunning go-fast cat owned by the noted Denver, Colo.-based performance-boat enthusiast, on the sales block.

But despite a difficult showing at last weekend’s Lake of the Ozarks Shootout that left him questioning his participation in such events, Farnsworth said he plans to keep competing.

“We’re not getting out of it,” he said. “That’s the question everyone has been asking me since they heard I’m selling Low Altitude. “I was uncomfortable going into LOTO, and it got worse and worse as we went along. If you’re not into it, you’ve got to get out of it. And as a team, we were a little dysfunctional.

“I need to get to Lake Havasu and run (Low Altitude) where I’m comfortable on the water,” he continued. “But we’re not getting out of it. We need to figure out how we can do this more easily and more cost effectively. We’re not sponsored. This is our wallets, our time and our families. Just pulling two boats around is a lot of work.”

To that end, Farnsworth plans to replace his two cats with one. The question is: Which one? He’s looked at new and pre-owned options and as yet hasn’t found the right boat. But he’s also considering doing something completely different from what’s currently on the performance-boat scene.

“Obviously, I have to do something,” said Farnsworth. “I think I can get together a purpose-built boat pretty cost effectively. I was talking to Robbie Willis (of Elite Marine) and Brad Stewart (of E-Ticket) last night and we could do something really different. We could pick up a pair of 12- or 16-cylinder Allison engines and put them in a used boat. I could get the motors for about $100,000 each and for $500,000 have a purpose-built boat (for shootout events). In the meantime, I have the Mystic center console coming, but that’s not going to tide me over for long. I am keeping all my trucks, though I’ll sell those that go with the boats when the boats sell if the buyers want them, because I don’t know what’s happening. I just know that I need to clean out the garage.”
