Major Mystic Hardware Headed to Shootout and Super Cat Fest

Renamed American Ethanol, Don Onken’s well-known Mystic catamaran will compete again at the upcoming Lake of the Ozarks Shootout.

The Lake of the Ozarks Shootout has long been a strong event for Mystic Powerboats—no one knows that better than John Cosker, the founder and owner of the DeLand, Fla.-based custom high-performance catamaran and luxury performance center console company. From the time Cosker and his friend and business associate Dave Callan piloted a 55-foot, Cosker-designed turbine-powered V-bottom down the course in the Central Missouri event in 2002, to last year’s epic—and likely all-time—mark of 244 mph set my Steve Curtis and Sheikh Hassan bin Jabor Al-Thani in a 50-foot turbine-powered Mystic catamaran, Mystic has continually produced some of the Shootout’s biggest moments.

Between the Shootout and Super Cat Fest, which runs concurrently with the speed contest and is headquartered at the nearby Camden On The Lake Resort, Mystic will have its biggest fleet ever at the lake during the upcoming weekend. Here’s a quick look at what Mystic fans of the brand can expect to see:

C5000 Catamarans
• Low Altitude, owned by Win Farnsworth and powered by twin 1,800-plus turbine engines and the odds-on favorite to take this year’s Top Gun trophy.

• American Ethanol, formerly Recycler, owned by Don Onken, powered by quad 1,700-plus-hp alcohol-burning engines, also competing in the Shootout.

• Envy, owned by Chris Cox and powered by twin 1,500-plus-hp Stotler Racing engines, not competing in the Shootout but on display at Super Cat Fest.

• Nauti-Marine, owned by David Scott and powered by twin detuned 1,450-hp Sterling Performance engines, a record-holding boat not competing in the Shootout but on display at the venue docks.

• Not yet named, the newest 50-footer from Mystic, owned by Lake of the Ozarks local Mark Wetterau and powered by twin Mercury Racing 1350 engines, not competing but on display at Super Cat Fest.

Owned by Mark Wetterau, the newest 50-foot Mystic is already at Performance Boat Center—Lake of the Ozarks is the boat’s home water.

C4400 Catamarans
• Agent Provocateur, owned by Chris Walker of SuperTrucks and powered by twin Mercury Racing 1100 engines, not competing but on display at Super Cat Fest.

• Not yet named, the newest 44-footer from Mystic, owned by Vinnie Foglia and powered by Mercury Racing 1100 engines, not competing but on display at Super Cat Fest.

In addition to the seven Mystic catamarans, there will be two Mystic M3900 center consoles on display at the venue docks and at Super Cat Fest.
