Mercedes-AMG GT S Sportscar Inspires Miami Show Debut 50 Marauder

For the fifth year in a row, Cigarette Racing Team has teamed up with Mercedes-AMG on a luxury sportscar-and-performance-boat debut at the Miami International Boat Show. Unveiled for attendees and members of the media shortly after the show opened, the all-new 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT S and Cigarette Racing 50 Marauder GT S Concept commanded center stage in the Cigarette exhibit.

The stunning 50-footer is powered by 1,550-hp Mercury Racing engines (read the story), which debuted simultaneously in the Mercury Marine booth in the Miami Beach Convention Center. With those power plants, top speed for the boat is estimated to be 135 mph, making it the fastest model in the Opa-locka, Fla., sportboat and luxury performance center console builder’s current lineup.

“We are thrilled to partner with the Mercedes-Benz high-performance brand again this year to design our fastest powerboat yet,” said Skip Braver, the president and chief executive officer of Cigarette Racing Team, in a press release from Mercedes-AMG. “Featuring the all-new Mercury Racing 1550 engines, the 50 Marauder GT S Concept embodies our brand’s commitment to innovation and craftsmanship.”

While the Mercedes-AMG GT S will be showcased in Miami for the next five days, the sportscar, which is powered by an aluminum 503-hp 4.0-litre “biturbo” engine that develops 479 foot-pounds of torque and reportedly propels the car from zero to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, will be launched in April. That means Miami show attendees are seeing a creation from Mercedes-AMG that most people—even in the automobile world—have not seen in person.

“With its technological substance the Mercedes-AMG GT S meets our high demands on driving dynamics, agility and performance”, says Tobias Moers, chairman of the board of management of Mercedes-AMG. “The GT S is built according to the motto ‘Handcrafted by Racers’. We are glad that this spirit and our brand-typical driving performance inspired our long-time partner Cigarette Racing to create this powerboat.”

Mercedes-AMG and Cigarette Racing have been collaborating since 2007, “primarily for organizing joint customer and marketing activities,” according to the press release.

“Inspired by the all-new Mercedes-AMG GT S, our newest collaboration with Cigarette Racing focuses on the exhilarating and the exquisite,” said Gorden Wagener, head of design for Daimler AG. “The new Mercedes-AMG GT is a sports car in its purist form and this expression of power and speed is what also sculpted the body and the flowing lines of the 50 Marauder GT S Concept.”

The 50 Marauder GT S Concept sportboat incorporates a number of “signature AMG elements.” Its interior is black and Solarbeam yellow—a proprietary AMG hue and paint—with marine-grade black Alcantara accents. The 50-footer’s exterior graphics feature a gloss-black gelcoat hull with an AMG logo in Solarbeam and matte black accents. In typical Cigarette fashion, the boat features state-of-the-art electronic technology including Bluetooth, the latest-generation Garmin GPS, computerized controls, four high-definition displays and a sound-bending audio system.

Price for the 50 Marauder is $1.2 million.
