Mercury Marine Juarez Celebrates Two Million Hours Of Safety

A little more than 20 miles south of El Paso, Texas, the Mercury Marine plant in Juarez, Mexico, is celebrating a major milestone this week. Owned by the Fond du Lac, Wis., marine engine and accessories company for more than 25 years, the Juarez plant, which employs 700-plus people and produces wire harnesses, control boxes and electrical parts, has logged two million hours without a lost-time injury since 2017.

As the plant’s recent milestone demonstrates, safety efforts are paramount at Mercury Marine Juarez.

“Building and maintaining a culture of safety as well as attention to detail has been the key to our success as a business unit here in Juarez” said Vicente Rodriguez, general manager of Mercury Juarez, in a Mercury Marine press release. “To achieve two million hours with no lost time injuries is an incredible feat and I’m proud of all of our employees who remain committed to our safety mission.”

This isn’t the first time the Juarez plant has been honored by the company, according to the release. In 2015, Mercury Marine’s Juarez plant received the Brunswick Corporation Chairman’s Safety Award for excellence in safety and employee engagement with more than one million hours without a lost-time incident. In addition, the plant won the 2014 S.A.F.E. Award, for “giving voice to employee concerns regarding safety, quality and productivity in the facility.”

Employees at the plant gathered earlier this week to celebrate the safety milestone.

“In 2018 we implemented various safety initiatives that have been well received by our entire workforce,” said Rodriguez. “Safety takes a commitment from everyone and with a continued focus on safety in our plant, I am confident that we will continue to reach our goals and set additional milestones in the near future.”
