Mercury Racing 1650-Powered Outerlimits Hits 150 mph

On its way north of the border today with its Canadian owner, an Outerlimits SL 52 reportedly topped 150 mph in testing last week. The 52-foot-long stepped hull V-bottom is the first Outerlimits model to be powered by twin Mercury Racing 1650 Race engines.

“With the right props it may have a few more miles per hour in it,” said Dan Kleitz of the Bristol, R.I., custom V-bottom and catamaran company.

While rigging and setup of the 52-footer took longer than anticipated, everyone at Outerlimits reportedly is pleased with the results. “It’s a beast,” said “Kleitz. “It goes from 70 to 120 mph in matter of seconds.’

The 1650-powered SL 52 likely will participate in the upcoming Poker Runs America 1,000 Islands Poker Run August 9-11, as well as the Lake of the Ozarks Shootout August 16-25.
