MYCO Catching Up After Five-Day Restart

Just five days ago, MYCO Trailers reopened its doors in Bradenton, Fla., after more than four weeks of voluntary closure as a response to the novel coronavirus crisis. Throughout the week, the company has incrementally returned its workforce, while maintaining Centers For Disease Control and Prevention social distance guidelines, and is now fully staffed.

With a complete team back at work, MYCO Trailers reportedly is already catching up on back orders.

“We are back at full production with the exception of social distancing practices throughout the facility and the small challenges that presents,” said Jon Smiley, MYCO’s director of new business development and outside sales. “We’re back to normal business and pushing hard to complete products as soon as possible.”

Catching up will be a formidable challenge for the company, which leads the high-performance powerboat custom trailer market. MYCO has orders from almost every noteworthy go-fast boat builder in the nation including Cigarette Racing Team, DCB Performance Boats, MTI, Mystic Powerboats, Nor-Tech Hi-Performance Boats, Outerlimits Offshore Powerboats, Sunsation and Wright Performance. Most of those orders have come through dealers from around the country such as American Custom Marine, Legend Marine Group, Midwest Boating Center and Performance Boat Center.

“We have a large number of trailers in various stages of production for MTI including tilt trailers for the new 390X, catamaran,” said Smiley. “We have completed three at this time and more are on the way.

“We have several Nor-Tech trailer builds in the works including two for 450 Sport center consoles ordered by American Custom Marine, another trailer for a 450 going to Midwest Boating Center and trailers for 340 and 390 center consoles going to other dealers,” he added.

Smiley said that, through the efforts of its production team, MYCO has already made significant progress in reducing lead times. He had expected the company’s average seven- to eight-week lead time to expand to 13 weeks.

Said Smiley, “We’re back to normal business and pushing hard to complete products as soon as possible.”

“We had initially anticipated being behind a true four weeks after being closed for that long,” “However our ‘triage approach’ has proven successful so far and we have reduced new order lead times within a week to 10 days of where we were prior to the pandemic.”
