Myrick Coil Heading Into Competitive Weekend On The Water

While he won’t reprise his role as driver of the 2015 Lake of the Ozarks Shootout Top Gun American Ethanol—a 50-foot Mystic catmaran—in this weekend’s event on the popular Central Missouri waterway, Performance Boat Center’s Myrick Coil will have at least one ride for the top-speed contest. He’ll be piloting a Cigarette 42X V-bottom powered by twin Mercury Racing 1350 engines and owned by one of the Osage Beach-based dealership’s customers.

“That should run in the 130-mph range,” said Coil. “I’m also probably going to run another couple of boats.”

Asked which other boats he’d planned to run during the Shootout, Coil declined to elaborate.

On Saturday evening, Coil and Performance Boat Center co-owner Mark Waddington will catch a flight to Ohio, where Coil and John Tomlinson hope to maintain their Superboat-class winning streak—they’re undefeated so far this season—at the inaugural Mentor Super Boat International Grand Prix in their 38-foot Skater catamaran.

“Friday morning the boat leaves for Mentor,” said Coil. “Johnny and Gary Ballough will test it on Saturday. On Sunday, I’ll go to the drivers’ meeting and then hop in the boat. We tested last Sunday, made a few changes and everything went perfectly. We have a new set of fast Mercury Racing propellers we plan to run there.”
