Mystic 1350-Powered Cat and Mystic-Built V-bottom In Paint

The first Mystic Powerboats catamaran powered by twin Mercury Racing 1350 engines is being painted by Chris Mills at BoatCustoms.com in Caledonia, Mich., according to John Cosker, the principal of Mystic in Deland, Fla. The owner of the new 50-foot cat lives in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The general public will get its first view of the cat at the 2012 Lake Havasu Boat Show April 20-22, which is being held this year in conjunction with the annual Desert Storm event.

“We’re excited to have it there, and I think they (the organizers) are also excited to have it there,” said Cosker.

Built by Mystic, the GTMM 39’ V-bottom also is in process of being painted, but a lot closer to its manufacturer’s home at Guardado Marine in Opa-Locka, Fla. The open-cockpit, stepped-bottom 39-footer is based off the 39’ Dragon—the original had an enclosed canopy—although substantial modifications to the hull were made.

“This is the first boat we’ve built at Mystic that I didn’t design,” said Cosker. “We’re pleased with the way it came out. We’re going to be meeting with (GTMM partners) Giovanni Theodoli and Scott Smith and Eddie Guardado to discuss some minor modifications for the next one we build, but as I said we’re pleased.”

The much-anticipated GTMM 39’ will debut at the 2012 Miami International Boat Show Feb. 16-20.
